Malleable Memories and Childhood Perceptions (2010)

Proposal Presentation (2009) 2:55

Old family photographs, voice from Apple iMac.

Considering memory, what is the difference between these photographs of my childhood and the words of my dreams? Both are as detached from the initial experience as each other. A photograph is merely a representation of an event, as a paragraph about an event in a dream is merely a representation of what actually happened.

Childhood drawings and family photographs

I have selected these images to draw attention to the contrasts and differences, but also to the similarities, of the ways I saw myself and the world as a child, the ways I remember my childhood experiences, and the version of these events portrayed in family photographs.
